Personally, I did not know about the fact that Hawaii is used as a test ground for many of these new modified seed varieties and harmful pesticides. Of course, none of this is really new news but at the same time it's extremely disheartening to hear and hopefully a film project headed by the most popular surfer in the world will help raise awareness.
And it's funny too. Anyone who follows this kind of stuff will no doubt already know that these genetically modified crops don't even work as they are supposed to. One of the main reasons for their existence is to be insect-free, but after a few generations the insects just become immune to whatever the hell is in there and begin to thrive on the new variety of crop. What a waste of time!
