BRO SESH 5.7

BRO SESH 5.7

I came across the "BRO SESH" videos a few weeks back and was really intrigued by them. A weekly event clearly organized by some good dudes who clearly just wanna share their love of snowboarding. And not in the all-too-familiar, "I just wanna share my love of snowboarding through filming epic helicopter-filled parts in Alaska", but more in the "standing around at a 200 vertical-foot ski-hill, in the rain, shredding with a bunch of knee-high park-rats" sense. I hit up organizer Will Johnson for some more info on the weekly throwdowns, which they film and put online each week.

Will's bio:

Will Johnson, I'm 30 years old, I'm a snowboarder and skateboarder who enjoys making art and growing the snowboard community. I've graduated from Seneca collage for Digital Media Arts. I have been involved in the snowboard industry for almost as long as I've been snowboarding. I have been working as a Tech Rep for Nitro Snowboards, Raiden Bindings and L1 Outerwear for the last few years. I'm 5th generation, born and raised in Milton Ontario, and I've ridden at Glen Eden since before they allowed snowboarding on the hill.

How long have you been doing BRO-SESH and what's it all about?

Will: We're currently five BRO-SESH's deep into our 5th season. And I'm planning on hosting as many as our meager Ontario season will allow us to do!
And what BRO-SESH is all about is the F- word, FUN!
Snowboarding is always supposed to be "for the fun of it". But it feels like everyone is more focused on doing triple corks, getting Energy drink sponsorships and competing in the Olympics these days.

What's the best part about the sessions?

The best part for me, is knowing I've actually done something positive to help grow and contribute to the community that snowboards at Glen Eden, in Southern Ontario and hopefully the world. Trying to act locally, while thinking globally.
But for the people who attend BRO-SESH it could be; the chance to see friends, meet new people, learn tricks, talk to people who work in the industry, promote your brand, see great snowboarding happen or maybe it's the chance to get some snowboarding footage in a high quality weekly webisode. Really though it could mean so many more things to different people.

Looks like quite the healthy little shred community over there, Are you trying to tell me you can still have fun snowboarding without a helicopter, a snowmobile and/or triple corks?

I'm telling you and everyone else, that snowboarding should always be about good times with friends and having fun! Never forget that.

It's taken me 5 years but I've personally helped build our healthy snowboarding community. More people need to start doing positive things to cultivate a healthy community in their own areas. BRO-SESH is a movement that I hope inspires others to do more then nothing, with what ever something, they happen to have.

What else do you have lined up for the rest of the year for BRO-SESH?

I'm planning on hosting a BRO-SESH every Wednesday evening at Glen Eden until they shut down for the season. Hopefully everyone who can physically get to a BRO-SESH, will find the time to come and participate in a BRO-SESH.
