Waterproof Camera Round-Up: Your Guide To Capturing All Your Summer Fun

Waterproof Camera Round-Up: Your Guide To Capturing All Your Summer Fun
Years back when they first appeared on the market, waterproof cameras were a big deal. I remember the first time a friend showed up with one camping ... it was awesome and we played with it all day. These days there's a ton of options in the waterproof/shockproof category and there's basically no reason to not get one if you're looking at point-and-shoots. In general they're no bigger than their non-waterproof counterparts - at least not enought to be annoying - and the photo quality is untouchable. For those of us who live active lifestyles there's simply no better way to capture and share your adventures with friends and family.

There's a ton of options on the market these days so we thought we'd narrow down the choices for you. Here's four top choices for a shock/waterproof camera this summer.

One small (and very important) note. For the most part these cameras DO NOT FLOAT! Make sure you attach a little floaty thing if you're going to be tossing this around between floaties, I've seen a friend lose their new camera in a deep lake because he forgot this small fact 😉

Consistently getting top reviews, even though it's one year old the Panasonic Lumix TS5 is considered by many to be the top contender in the category. Rugged, shockproof, waterproof and most importantly it shoots incredibly rich and detailed photos whether above or below water. And since it's a bit older you can grab this baby for over $100 less than many of it's competitors.

Amazon - $329

This baby is a bit more expensive than some others in the waterproof category but the Nikon 1 AW1 is the world's first waterproof interchangeable lens digital camera. It's waterproof to 15m, freeze proof and shock proof, with high speed shooting modes.

Henry's - $849.99

The Olympus Stylus TG-2 has all the features you expect in a rugged/waterproof camera but also has a few sweet extras like GPS marking on your photos. High-Speed, Ultra-Bright f2.0 lens. Waterproof to 15m/50ft; Shockproof up to 2.1m/6.9ft; Crushproof up to 100kgf/220lbf; Freezeproof -10C/14F; Dustproof, Water-repellant Lens, GPS and e.Compass, Manometer, Automatic Underwater Balance

Amazon $382

The Nikon Coolpix AW110 has GPS and wifi, making it easy to upload and share those photos and quick as possible. It's also quite affordable, making it a great entry-level camera for those looking to get their first camera.

Amazon - $269

So there you have it. Four solid choices for your next camera. You'll want to do some more research on your own but these should get you on the right track.

Happy shooting!
