Stone Nudes Blends The Beauty Of Rock & The Female Form

Stone Nudes Blends The Beauty Of Rock & The Female Form

Dean Fidelman is a Yosemite based climbing photographer who has been shooting a series of incredibly photos for the past 15 years. "Stone Nudes" blends nude photography with incredible rockscapes and rock climbing. The results are gorgeous and speak for themselves.

He's published a calendar of his latest work every year for the past 14 years and for the 15th has decided to take back control of the publishing process and self-fund this year's run through a modest Kickstarter campaign

In Dean's own words:

Stone Nudes: an extract of the art of climbing. Intended to inspire and celebrate the human form. Stone Nudes draws from the community it represents. Over the last ten years, a body of over one hundred photographs drawing from three generations of climbers has evolved.

Unlike current climbing media, these images do not seek to sell or promote anything beyond the experience. This approach has attracted climbers of all abilities to participate in a project designed to capture the essence of the climbing sprit.

Why a Kickstarter campaign?

For the last several years, one single retailer has financed the entire publication of the StoneNudes Calendars, and has handled all sales and order fulfillment. This year, I have decided to take back the majority of those responsibilities, for several reasons.

The first is that StoneNudes has always been a community-based project. It would not be possible without everyone who has participated as a model, a spotter, driver, a talent or location scout; who offered me couches to sleep on; or avid fan who has spread the word. Through this campaign, I can offer my biggest fans the opportunity to order calendars and prints for a significant discount over the retail price. I'm in the process of updating the StoneNudes website so that I can sell prints and other items there, but you'll find the best rates here.

The second is that for years, people have been asking me to sell them previous-years' calendars. I'm finally getting around to opening up the archives.

And the third reason is that I stand to retain a much higher percentage of each sale -- and further strengthen my own relationships with all of you -- by reaching out to you personally to support this project, rather than relying solely upon a traditional retailer. This project has been a labor of love, but I also need to feed myself.
