When I first began writing this article, my voice behind and intent was to help people make resolutions that stick. It was a standard “how to” article. It was composed of a few steps to the general public to help carry-out whatever their resolution might be. Be it to save $15 000, lose weight, volunteer more, drink less, finish school, spend time with family, the list goes on.
-make realistic goals
-break down your goals into smaller pieces
-share your goals with others
-post visuals notes around your house to be reminded
….
However, upon doing a little research and really thinking about the bigger picture of it all I stumbled on something. One of those “aha!” moments. Where you rise out of the staleness of the “how to” and find something just a little more meaningful. Not a spiritual moment, there was no bearded man, no glowing figure, I was not drunk, and I did not hit my head today. An epiphany that can be compared to realizing that there is more to Christmas than expensive gifts and materialistic things.
This is an international calendar day in our society where the idea of bettering our lives is celebrated. Its like a self-help day. A day where we all support the concept that it is good to set goals and positive intentions for the future. Something we can all benefit from. Be it situationally, environmentally, emotionally, physically, or psychologically.
So take hold of this holiday! Use the beginning of this new calendar year for something a little more meaningful than another opportunity to get drunk. Take life by the balls and make a firm decision to do something positive for yourself or others, or to cease habits that are harmful to yourself of others. Use the platform that has been given to you to start off fresh, a reset button if you may.

Not asking you to solve world hunger in a year or cure cancer, just an invitation to choose a mantra that you are truly passionate about making a reality. Something that serves you and those around you for the better. If you don’t want to, then support those that do! And shit, drink the champagne, get dressed up, countdown, kiss when the clock strikes 12, and welcome in the new beginning with the big party!
No step-by-step or “how to” manual necessary here. Positive resolutions from the very core, they have a pretty solid success rate.
