It was a crazy week of parties, snowboard/ski events and a ton of art and media events. Here's my 12 top moments of the week, taken with my wonderful and dreamy Olympus E-PL5 and 12mm lens combo.
This photo is out of focus but I had to include it because I got to participate in this rad debate at the museum with some old friends and some legends of snowboarding. It was a great night and an honour to be involved, to be honest I was surprised by how many wicked people showed up and how involved everyone got. Magee wrote about it HERE
Every time I deal with the cops at a photo or video shoot I feel like a kid again. I fucking love it! These cops were cool (one of them anyways) and the session was allowed to go on.
Filming for the Nuulife submission for Intersection, I was happy to contribute my cable-cam services as we ended up nailing an amazing shot with this huge group of shreds and skiers (check it out HERE). Everyone pulled together (and let me boss them around!) and kept on given'r until we nailed the shot. It ended up being one of the biggest crowd cheers of the night.
John Swystun and Dave Craig of Nuulife about to enter the final all-night stretch of editing their Intersection submission. It was due first thing the next morning and they still had hours of raw footage to sift through.
There was an incredible fundraiser for Breast Cancer in support of snowboarder Meghan Pische at Merlin's on Wednesday night that included an auction that raised 10's of thousands of dollars. Here, DCP, Meghan's husband and snowboard icon, addresses the crowd before the auction kicked off – you can see fellow Quebec-born snowboard icon JF Pelchat front and center ready to throw down some cash. Check out our report HERE.
My good friend Darcy Bacha was in the Photographer Showdown on Thursday night. It's a huge honour and his parents came up from Oregon for the occasion. It was really amazing to be able to share in the experience with Darcy, his show rocked the house.
Darcy didn't win Best in Show but snowboard photographer Andy Wright did and the expression on Darcy's face says everything you need to know about how he felt about it. It was a great night and I think it's safe to say we were both incredibly pumped to see one of our own, and someone we both look up to tremedously, take home the win.
I'm lucky to have some incredibly cool people as my friends. This is my boy Stan Matwychuk live painting up a storm in the lobby of the Intersection show as part of a 3-way collab with two also very cool people, Mark Kowalchuk and Darren Camplin.
After A LOT of work, John and Dave watch the crowd enjoy the Nuulife Intersection edit. Read about the whole night HERE.
The Nuulife cheering section just blew up when the credits rolled. I love the expressions on the faces of the people in the row in front of them!
The night of the Big Air always fills up the village to capacity and although most of these people only care about how many flip-dee-doos the boys toss, it's still always amazing to see such a giant crowd cheering for snowboarding. Read about and see all the action HERE.
Watching groms fucking around in the village during the big air, you can't help but smile and remember a time when you were that young and just stoked to be out of your parents watchful eye as they dropped you off at the ski hill.
And of course the parties … oh god, the parties.
