Seth Wescott and Mealle Ricker win at the 28th Legendary Baker Banked Slalom - w/ Video

It’s a simple race of going left and right, picking a line and playing with G forces.  Still, some of the biggest names in our sport surge to the start shack for some friendly competition.  At the end of the day it’s all about hanging out at the bonfire and sharing stories about the biggest ruts on the course. Noone but Mealle Ricker looks pretty coming down that course!

Before the Olympics, before a rider ever hit a rail there was the banked slalom. Coming from a time not far from when poaching meant riding in a resort! Held at one of the first hills to allow snowboarding, The Baker Banked Slalom is like Mecca for boarders.  A weekend where young guns, top pros, legends and anyone who loves the snow can gather.

Two Olympians placed a roll of gold duct tape next to their Olympic gold medals this Sunday.

Seth Wescott, Snowboard cross champion came in first in the Pro Men category with a time of 1:33.221. Hot on his heels was Graham Watanabe with 1:33.801. Jason Robinson who apparently also has a mean hand plant came in third.  Not surprisingly Mealle Ricker won the Pro Woman category, with Laura Hadar in second and Dominique Vallee in third.

If you missed out don’t despair there are Banked Slalom events at Big White, Whitewater and a new event at Red Mountain in Rossland. Despite what anyone says they are just as much fun.

Here's a great recap video of the event from the Lib Tech crew:
