Seb Toots Clinches TTR Big Air Championship

[Editor's note: Really TTR? This is the best you could do for translating a press release?]

Quebec-bord Sébastien Toutant took second place Saturday at the Billabong Air & Style, a Big Air competition ranked six stars in the professional TTR circuit, which took place in Innsbruck, Austria. This position allowed him to take the title of champion in the Big Air TTR season.

This was the last Big Air competition of the TTR circuit. The athlete from l’Assomption achieved a total of 827.76 points to take the title of champion for the 2012-13 TTR in Big Air. He finished ahead of Norwegian Stale Sandbech by 1.01 points. Canadian Mark McMorris finished third with a total of 817.69 points.

“This is the first time that I’ve won this title in Big Air, explained Toutant. Last year, I had won in slopestyle. Most competitors who are good in slopestyle are also good in Big Air, but it shows that I am versatile and can stand out in both styles.”

The A&S Setup

It was American Eric Willett who received the biggest honours for the event. In the grand finals, Willett obtained a score of 88.33, five points higher than Toutant. Norwegian Aleksander Ostreng won the bronze medal with 75 points. Also in the grand finals, Mark McMorris finished in fourth position.

Before making it to the grand finals, the competitors needed to win three duels. Antoine Truchon saw his course end in the second round when McMorris took the advantage in the round of the 16. On his end, Maxence Parrot was eliminated in the first round. In the Big Air TTR season ranking, Truchon finished in 5th position and Parrot in 6th

“I really liked the formula where we needed to win three duels before finding ourselves in the grand finals, mentioned Toutant. In the grand finals we were four and I tried to do one of my best tricks in order to be on the podium.”

The riders were supposed to make their way towards Sotchi for a Slopestyle world cup next weekend, but it was cancelled because there is not enough snow in Russia. Toutant now hopes to be invited to the Burton European Open which will take place in Laax, Switzerland. It is a six star TTR competition.

“If it doesn’t work out, I will go back home to make videos and prepare for the US Open.”

The Us Open will take place in Vail, Colorado on March 1st."
