How Did Your Favourite Ski Films Fare at the Coldsmoke Awards?
They say that the Coldsmoke Awards are for films celebrating winter culture in all its glory.

As it happens, they're telling the truth: despite being up against a number of ski and snowboard flicks, North of the Sun, the Norweigan-based winter surf film, took the Coldsmoke Award at the 2014 Coldsmoke Award Show, which took place on Saturday, January 18th in Bozeman, Montana.

Check out the trailer for North of the Sun for a little taste of what it feels like to spend nine months quite literally north of the sun in damp, bone-chilling cold:

But don't fret, ski and snowboard movies still had their time in the sun at the award show: our beloved Sherpa's Cinema nabbed the award for Best Cinematography for Into the Mind, while Sweetgrass Production's Valhalla swept the Soul Award and Best Director awards.

TGR's Way of Life was awarded Best Powder (my personal favourite award), so if you're feeling a little pow-starved, you might want to check that one out.

The big event was the culmination of the five-stop Coldsmoke Film Tour, which brought a well-rounded collection of winter films to mountain towns across North America. Each stop was a show and party in its own right, so you can imagine that the final event, attended by more than a few legendary skiers and shredders, was pretty major.

It's safe to say that the Coldsmoke Awards accomplished what they were out to do: celebrate all things winter, support the creative people who produce incredible films, and ignite the stoke for those of us who live for this season.
