Surfing the Silver Dragon

If you’re looking for interesting and potentially hazardous places to surf, the Qiantang River in southeastern China is your spot.

Every year, millions of people flock to the shores of the river to watch the world-famous tidal bore that occurs annually, usually at the end of the eighth lunar month. As the tide rushes into the river mouth from the bay, it causes a wave which can reach up to 9 metres and travel at up to 40km per hour against the natural current.

In 2008, some brave surfers convinced the Chinese government to allow them to surf the bore, using PWCs to chase the wave.  Since then, a few lucky surfers have managed to return every year to get a taste of that dirty dirty river water. Check the video, and get this on the list!
