Mavericks International Big Wave Surf Comp Will Run This Sunday

With swell forecasted in the 25+ foot range, the call has been made by contest organizers and the word went out a few days ago to the worlds best big-wave surfers to book a ticket and get their asses out to California for the Mavericks International, which will run this Sunday.

For those not familiar with how these contests work, it's not like most events as far as planning. The window for the contest lasts over six-months and has been on since the fall. Forecasters wait and watch the seas and then when, and if, the planets align word goes out and competitors have two or three days to get to the venue from places such as Brazil, Hawaii, Southern California, and South Africa. In fact, the contest hasn't even run since 2010.
